Sweden to send Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine
Sweden is preparing to transfer several Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Sweden Herald.
The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet learned that the Swedish government plans to provide Ukraine with Gripen C and D fighter jets.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has scheduled a press conference at an air base in Uppsala for May 28.
The event is expected to present “news related to international cooperation in aviation.”
According to Aftonbladet, negotiations will also begin on the possible sale to Ukraine of additional and more modern Gripen E fighter jets.
It is noted that Ukraine would pay for these aircraft using EU loans.
Last year, Sweden and Ukraine signed a letter of intent that could lead to an agreement on 100–150 Gripen aircraft.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said the country is expecting additional Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter jets.
