Ukrainian government launches overhaul of defense planning, expands drone capabilities – Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the Ministry of Defense is preparing updates to key defense planning documents, and emphasized sustained funding for drone programs and support for combat brigades.
The head of state wrote this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
“It is time to update the fundamental defense documents of Ukraine, including the national defense plan. The course of hostilities has shown what must become the renewed priorities,” Zelensky noted.
According to him, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal will prepare detailed proposals for the changes and present them to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval.
The President added that the minister reported on his trip to Mykolaiv and Kherson regions and the local protection measures there, with the strengthening of critical infrastructure being a separate topic.
In addition, Zelensky stressed that the government and the Ministry of Defense are fully providing the necessary funding for procurements, including drones for combat brigades.
“Yesterday, another monthly subvention tranche for combat brigades was financed in the amount of 4.3 billion hryvnias. An additional 8 billion hryvnias was also allocated for the financing of the Drone Line,” the President summarized.
As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
