New German defense minister plans to visit Ukraine

The new German defense minister, Boris Pistorius, plans to visit Ukraine soon.

He said this to journalists during his visit to the Bundeswehr Joint Forces Operations Command in the state of Brandenburg on Monday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"My visit [...] to Ukraine will take place in the near future," Pistorius said, without specifying the date, but making it clear that this would be his first visit to a crisis region, after which he will travel to the countries where Bundeswehr soldiers carry out missions.

Pistorius called the issue of sending fighter jets to the Ukrainian Armed Forces "hypothetical" at this time. He said he would not answer hypothetical questions, while referring to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has recently stated that the question of supplying combat aircraft to Kyiv is not on the agenda.
