Pentagon monitoring situation on Ukraine-Russia border – spokesperson

The Pentagon is closely monitoring the situation amid reports of a new buildup of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine, according to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.

He said this at a briefing on Monday, November 1, Ukrinform reports, referring to France24.

"We're aware of public reports of unusual Russian military activity near Ukraine, and we're going to continue to consult with allies and partners on this issue. […] As we've said before, any escalatory or aggressive actions would be of great concern to the United States," Kirby said.

The Washington Post earlier said the United States and the European Union were recording a renewed buildup of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border.

Later, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry denied any additional transfer of Russian units, weapons and military equipment to the state border with Ukraine, describing reports about troop redeployment as an element of information and psychological actions.
