Russia testing new weapons in eastern Ukraine – Syrsky

The Russian Federation uses the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions as a testing ground for new weapons. The situation in the east remains tense and tends to worsen.

Commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky said this at a meeting with Turkish Minister of Defense, General Hulusi Akar and Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, General Ümit Dündar during his visit to Turkey, according to the Facebook page of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine are opposing a terrorist group, which includes regular units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The situation remains tense and tends to aggravate. The aggressor uses the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions as a testing ground for new weapons. At the same time, despite the difficult situation, Ukraine has achieved significant success in equipping the Armed Forces with weapons and military equipment,” Syrsky said.

During the meeting with Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, Syrsky thanked him for the consistent political support for Ukraine, non-recognition of the occupation of Crimea, material, technical and financial assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and assistance in the treatment and rehabilitation of wounded servicemen of the Armed Forces.

During the meeting, they also discussed Ukraine's intention to join NATO.

“We are interested in Turkey’s further comprehensive support for our strategic course towards joining the North Atlantic Alliance,” the commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces said.

As reported, Commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky is on a visit to the Republic of Turkey. The visit includes official events in Ankara and Istanbul. It will last until March 26.
