Taran’s meeting with Japanese defense minister, scheduled for today, canceled

A meeting between Ukrainian Defense Minister Andrii Taran and Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, scheduled for March 17, has been canceled because one of the members of the Ukrainian delegation tested positive for COVID-19.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Japan.

"On March 17, it was planned to invite an official delegation headed by Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrii Taran and hold a meeting of the defense ministers of Japan and Ukraine. However, after receiving a message that one of the members of the delegation of Minister Taran tested positive for coronavirus, we are canceling this meeting, given the need to comply with anti-epidemic measures," the report reads.

Earlier, a member of the Ukrainian official delegation, Ukroboronprom Director General Yuri Husev wrote on Facebook that on March 16, during his stay in Tokyo, he tested positive for COVID-19 and self-isolated at the Ukrainian Embassy in Japan.

As reported, a visit of Ukrainian Defense Minister Andrii Taran to Japan – the first-ever in the history of bilateral relations – began on March 16.
