Ukraine, Turkey discuss exchange of airspace monitoring data - Defense Ministry

Representatives of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Turkey and ASELSAN Corporation discussed with representatives of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine joint measures on technical aspects of the air traffic data exchange system under NATO’s Air Situation Data Exchange (ASDE) programme.

"The main purpose of the event – to discuss technical aspects of the operation of the air traffic data exchange system under the NATO’s ASDE program and the possibility of organizing data exchange between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey on a bilateral basis, including airspace monitoring," the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported.

During the meeting, the parties agreed on possible mutual exchange of technical data for monitoring the airspace of exclusive economic zones, which will allow Ukraine to assess the situation in its own exclusive economic zone, preventing possible threats from the Russian Federation.

As reported by Ukrinform, on October 16, 2020, a number of documents were signed in Istanbul following a meeting of the Presidents of Ukraine and Turkey, Volodymyr Zelensky and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, including a framework military agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Turkey.
