Need for ceasefire from midnight August 31 expressed at Trilateral Contact Group meeting

OSCE Special Representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on the settlement of situation in Donbas Martin Sajdik has stated that the next meeting of the Group is scheduled for September 7.

He said this after the next Group’s meeting in Minsk, Radio Liberty reports.

According Sajdik, at the meeting the parties expressed the need for permanent ceasefire from midnight on August 31 due to the start of a new school year. He noted that it was a common initiative of all the parties in the talks.

As a reminder, the fighting in eastern Ukraine has been lasting since 2014. Since that time, numerous meetings of the Trilateral Contact Group has been held and agreements on ceasefire have been reached several times. These agreements have been systematically violated by Russian-backed militants.
