School shooting in Zakarpattia: Police search for parents of ninth-grade student
Police in Ukraine's western Zakarpattia region are searching for the parents of a ninth-grade student who opened fire at a school, injuring another student. The shooter is currently refusing to communicate with psychologists.
The injured student was not hospitalized, as the wound was superficial. He received medical assistance on site, Zakarpattia regional police spokesperson Hanna Dan told Ukrinform.
"Fortunately, there are no other victims as a result of the school shooting in Zakarpattia. All the children are safe. The injured boy was hit in the shoulder by another student. There is no threat to his health or life. The wound is superficial. He was not hospitalized, and medics provided assistance on site," Dan said.
According to the spokesperson, the student who carried out the shooting has already been apprehended.
"There is no formal detention protocol yet. [Authorities] are deciding on further steps. They are now working to identify and locate his parents. Psychologists are working with him, but he is not engaging at this point. We are not applying pressure and are waiting for psychologists to continue their work," Dan added.
As reported, a ninth-grade student at an educational institution in the Uzhhorod district, Zakarpattia region, fired a pistol at a classmate.
