Deadly shooting: Cherkasy region police chief resigns pending investigation

The head of the main directorate of the National Police in the Cherkasy region, Oleh Hudyma, has temporarily suspended his duties pending the investigation into the shooting in the Korsun district.

The statement was posted on the police's Facebook page, Ukrinform reports.

"Due to the tragic events in the Cherkasy region, I have decided to temporarily suspend my duties pending the investigation. This is my considered decision, dictated solely by the need to ensure objectivity and trust in the results of the investigation," the statement read.

On January 27, four law enforcement officers were killed in the Cherkasy region during the detention of ex-soldier Serhii Rusinov.

Rusinov's veterans demanded the resignation of the police leadership during a rally outside the building of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration.
