Poland issues EAW for second Ukrainian suspect involved in railway sabotage
The District Court in Warsaw on Thursday, December 4, issued a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) for Ukrainian citizen Oleksandr Kononov, who was involved in the sabotage on the Polish railway network.
This was reported by the District Court in Warsaw, according to PAP, Ukrinform reports.
“A court has issued a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) for Oleksandr Kononov, the second suspect in the railway sabotage case,” the court stated.
The decision regarding Kononov was made on Thursday, while the decision on Ivanov was taken the previous day, December 3.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Poland announced a search for two Ukrainian citizens, 41-year-old Yevhenii Ivanov and 39-year-old Oleksandr Kononov, in the case involving sabotage on the Polish railway.
The Warsaw court granted the prosecutor’s request and ordered the arrest of Ivanov and Kononov for 60 days. They are suspected of carrying out acts of sabotage on Poland’s railways. The ruling will take effect after both suspects are detained; they have fled to Belarus.
Poland’s Minister-Coordinator of Special Services, Tomasz Siemoniak, stated that the acts of sabotage on the Polish railway were carried out by professionals, not amateurs, and that the plan could have resulted in mass casualties.
