Postal shipments: Customs officers foil scheme for smuggling weapons from U.S. to Ukraine
Customs officials, working in cooperation with law enforcement, uncovered and served a notice of suspicion on a citizen of Ukraine and the United States of America who had organized a scheme to illegally move weapons in international postal shipments sent from the United States to Ukraine.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was announced by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
To establish the circumstances, customs officers, together with officers of the Security Service of Ukraine, conducted a controlled delivery of shipments that contained weapons, essential components, and ammunition.
After one of the parcels was received by the suspect, customs officials and law enforcement officers searched his vehicle, where they discovered the shipment with the prohibited items.
The man was served a notice of suspicion for committing a criminal offense under Article 201, Part 1, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling of cultural property and weapons).
As reported by Ukrinform, in the Chernivtsi region, at the Porubne border crossing point, customs officers thwarted an attempt to illegally export $100,000 to Romania.
