Ukrinform’s new special project, “Battle-Tested,” puts the weapons trusted by Ukrainian defenders to the test. The film crew visited the fighters of the “Rubizh” Brigade to get a closer look at the Ukrainian UAR-15 assault rifle, which is increasingly replacing Soviet-era weapons in Defense Forces units.

Together with a soldier nicknamed “Borzyi,” viewers will learn about the weapon’s design features, its advantages, and practical application on the battlefield, as well as why the UAR-15 has become the standard-issue weapon of his unit and what characteristics make it effective in modern warfare.

“This model is used in various units, both infantry and reconnaissance. This weapon has already become the standard-issue weapon of our unit. We are already transitioning from the old AKs to the new UARs,” the soldier explains.

The program will demonstrate how to disassemble a rifle, discuss safety rules for handling firearms, and cover the specifics of shooting. “Borzyi” will explain in detail how the mechanisms work and the specifics of using combat weapons.

“You must treat a weapon as if it were always loaded,” the soldier emphasizes.

In addition to the theoretical part, host Khrystyna Ravliuk will test her skills at the shooting range.

The program will also discuss the advantages of Ukrainian weapons over their Soviet counterparts. According to Borzov, the UAR-15 is on par with the legendary Kalashnikov assault rifle. “It’s as effective as it gets—no worse than the AK,” the soldier notes.
