Ukraine’s Defense Forces strike Russian shadow fleet tanker WEST Horizon in Black Sea
Units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the Russian shadow fleet tanker WEST Horizon in the Black Sea.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.
During the night of June 10, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out strikes against a number of important facilities belonging to Russia’s military-industrial and fuel-energy sectors.
In the Chuvash Republic, a strike targeted the VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary. A successful hit on the facility and a fire on its premises were confirmed.
The strike was carried out by missile and artillery units of the Ukrainian Ground Forces using Ukrainian-made FP-5 Flamingo missiles. The distance from the nearest active combat zone in Ukraine to the target exceeded 900 kilometers.
The enterprise is one of Russia’s key manufacturers of navigation equipment for precision-guided weapons. The plant produces satellite navigation receivers and Kometa-type antennas used in Shahed (Geran-2) attack drones, Kalibr cruise missiles, Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile systems, and the unified planning and correction modules fitted to aerial bombs.
In Samara, the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery was also struck. A successful hit and a fire at the facility were confirmed.
The Kuibyshev refinery is one of the largest oil-processing enterprises in Russia’s Samara industrial group, with an annual processing capacity of approximately 3.7 million tons of crude oil.
The refinery produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, and other petroleum products used to support Russia’s military-industrial complex and armed forces.
In addition, the Russian shadow fleet tanker WEST Horizon was hit in the Black Sea. Damage to the vessel’s propeller-rudder assembly was confirmed.
The tanker WEST Horizon is used in Russian shadow fleet schemes to transport oil and petroleum products while circumventing international sanctions and restrictions.
Furthermore, follow-up reconnaissance of the missile, ammunition, and explosives arsenal struck on June 6 near Bolshaya Izhora in Russia’s Leningrad Region confirmed the destruction of 18 above-ground storage facilities and three open storage sites. Signs of secondary ammunition detonations were also recorded.
As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo missiles struck a military plant in Cheboksary that supplies Russian forces with components for drones and missiles.
