CinC Syrskyi inspects air defense operations in southern Ukraine, issues new orders
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi inspected the operation of air defense units in southern Ukraine during a working visit and issued a number of directives to military personnel.
According to Ukrinform, Syrskyi announced the visit on Facebook.
“During a working trip to southern Ukraine, I visited Air Command South. I inspected the organization of combat operations at the command post, as well as the work of air defense missile and artillery crews carrying out missions to protect Ukraine’s airspace. I received reports from the commander, Brigadier General Oleksandr Humeniuk, and other officials regarding the current situation, the enemy’s tactics, the state of the air defense system, and ways to improve its effectiveness,” Syrskyi said.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, special attention was given to command and control of air defense assets, the speed of information exchange, coordination among all components of the Defense Forces, and adapting the air defense system to Russia’s evolving tactics involving the mass use of strike drones and various types of missiles.
Syrskyi stressed that Russian forces continue deliberate attacks on southern Ukraine’s port infrastructure, including ports, grain terminals, maritime logistics facilities, and other civilian infrastructure.
“The enemy’s goal is to disrupt the operation of the maritime corridor, damage the country’s economy, and create additional security threats in the Black Sea region. Our task is to prevent these plans from succeeding,” he emphasized.
He added that the visit included a separate review of the use of mobile fire groups, short-range air defense units, and tactical drone interception groups, as well as their integration into a unified air defense network.
Under current conditions, Syrskyi noted, flexibility in command and control, timely maneuvering of forces, and the scaling up of modern counter-drone solutions are among the key factors determining effectiveness.
Following the inspection, the Commander-in-Chief issued directives aimed at improving air defense command and control, enhancing air target detection capabilities, expanding the use of tactical interception groups, and accelerating the deployment of new technologies to counter Russia’s large-scale aerial attacks.
Syrskyi also underscored that Ukraine continues to operate under conditions of limited availability of modern air defense systems and interceptor missiles. Therefore, he said, it is crucial to use existing resources efficiently, improve the performance of every element of the air defense network, and continue securing advanced air defense systems and ammunition from international partners.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, on May 30, Syrskyi visited Odesa, where he met with the leadership and officers of the Ukrainian Navy.
