Russian forces rotate offensive grouping in southern Ukraine, activity expected to increase in summer – spokesman
Russian occupation forces are currently rotating their offensive grouping in southern Ukraine, particularly on the Huliaipole axis, which may indicate increased enemy activity during the summer period.
Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces, said this in comments to Ukrinform.
"Right now, the enemy is trying to carry out a rapid rotation of its offensive grouping, particularly on the Huliaipole axis. This offensive grouping belongs to Russia's 5th Army. It will consist of the 57th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, the 60th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, and the 55th Naval Infantry Division. This grouping will operate throughout June 2026," the spokesperson said.
According to him, Russian command has assigned these units new tasks aimed at breaking deeper into Ukrainian defensive lines.
"They have been given new tasks, and these objectives are set deep within the defensive positions of Ukraine's Defense Forces. For example, [they are tasked with] capturing certain positions in the depth of the defense. All of this indicates that enemy activity will continue in the summer. And judging by the deployment of new units and groupings, this activity is likely to increase," Voloshyn said.
As reported earlier, Russian forces failed to meet their end-of-May deadline to capture Ternuvate and Kosivtseve.
