Spox Voloshyn: Enemy reinforcing Kinburn Spit with special forces amid fears of its liberation
Russian troops fear that the Defense Forces will attempt to liberate the Kinburn and Tender Spits, so they are reinforcing these areas with special forces from Sevastopol.
This was reported in a comment to Ukrinform by Colonel Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces.
“The Russians are very wary that the Ukrainian Defense Forces will attempt to liberate the Kinburn and Tender spits. That is why they are stationing one of their most combat-ready special forces units there. Among them are many residents of the temporarily occupied Crimea, and there are even some of our former servicemen among them,” Voloshyn said.
He clarified that the special forces of the Sevastopol Special Operations Center are better trained, equipped, and have several modern boats.
“They have now rotated this unit. It is quite well-armed, has several modern boats, several powerful pickup trucks, and is equipped with electronic warfare and radio-electronic reconnaissance systems, as well as crews for reconnaissance and strike unmanned aerial vehicles. The unit’s main task is to conduct special aerial reconnaissance in the Kinburn Spit area, monitor the waters of the Dnipro Estuary, the Dnipro River delta, and Maisky Island. It also patrols the coastline and organizes anti-landing operations,” the spokesperson said.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Kinburn Spit in the Mykolaiv region is a strategic foothold for the Russians, as it allows them to control the Dnipro-Bug Estuary and block Ukraine’s access to the sea from the ports of Kherson and Mykolaiv.
