Ukraine strengthens border with Belarus with fortifications, mine barriers

Ukraine continues to reinforce and fortify its entire border with Belarus amid concerns over possible hostile actions from Minsk or Moscow.

According to Ukrinform, Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, said in a television interview that significant attention is being paid to the Belarus direction.

"Engineering works are ongoing directly along the border line, and fortification structures are being built across the entire border with Belarus," Demchenko said.

He added that units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are also installing mine and explosive barriers in the most vulnerable areas to prevent the movement of military equipment.

"Overall, the border with Belarus remains a risk zone from which Russia – or Belarus, if it yields to pressure from Russia – could become more actively involved in the war unleashed by the terrorist state against Ukraine. In addition, the Belarusian side could independently attempt to destabilize the situation or carry out other actions," Demchenko said.

He stressed that Ukraine must maintain strong defensive positions so that every Ukrainian servicemember stationed in the area is capable of responding to any threats originating from Belarusian territory.
