Zelensky: 52 people killed and 346 others injured in Ukraine over past week due to Russian shelling
Over the course of the week, Russia launched more than 3,170 attack drones, over 1,300 guided bombs, and 74 missiles of various types at Ukraine, most of which were ballistic missiles.
According to Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported this on Facebook.
“There were many hits on residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. Unfortunately, 52 people were killed as a result of attacks this week. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 346 people were affected and injured, including 22 children,” the president wrote.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine needs to strengthen its air defense system and develop joint defense with European partners against ballistic threats.
“Our people need more protection, and everything that supports Ukraine’s air defense ultimately helps save lives. That is why the PURL initiative and additional contributions for anti-ballistic missiles are critical. And it is equally important to work in Europe on joint protection against ballistic missiles,” Zelensky emphasized.
The president expressed gratitude to partners for their assistance.
As reported by Ukrinform, on the night of May 14, Russian forces launched a massive missile and drone strike on Ukraine. The main target of the strike was Kyiv. In the Darnytskyi district, 18 apartments were destroyed as a result of a strike on a multi-story apartment building. The deaths of 24 people have been confirmed, three of whom were children.
