Rescuers contain large forest fire in Chernihiv region

Rescue services have managed to contain a large-scale fire of dry vegetation and self-seeded forests in the Desna community of the Chernihiv region.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES) announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

The total area affected by the fire is 350 hectares.

Efforts to fully extinguish remaining hotspots are ongoing. Specialists are also working to prevent any renewed spread of the fire.

Earlier reports said that due to a large forest fire in the border area caused by ongoing Russian shelling, preparations were underway in the Chernihiv region for a possible evacuation of the population.
