General Syrotenko: Engineering troops favor remote mining

The engineering troops are focusing on remote mining using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground-based robotic systems (GRS).

This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by Brigadier General Vasyl Syrotenko, Chief of the Engineering Troops of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Today, such tasks are carried out by remote mining units using both drones and ground-based robotic systems. They make it possible to quickly block the enemy’s routes of movement and simultaneously inflict losses on them,” Syrotenko noted.

According to him, remote mining is preferred because it is faster, more accurate, and safer.

“The main focus is precisely on remote mining using UAVs. This makes it possible to operate much more effectively and, critically, significantly reduces risks to personnel. Whereas previously sappers worked directly in dangerous zones, now these tasks are performed remotely—faster, more accurately, and more safely,” Syrotenko emphasized.

He also noted that the entire remote mining process is monitored in real time.

“We observe both the formulation of the mission and its execution, recording the destruction of enemy equipment and personnel. All confirmed targets are immediately entered into the Delta situational awareness system, ensuring the reliability and objectivity of the data. In fact, commanders at command posts observe in real time how the system of engineering barriers is being formed and can immediately make decisions, adjust actions, and evaluate the results,” noted the chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Engineering Troops.

As reported by Ukrinform, Russian troops are laying mines en masse along the Crimean coast, fearing a landing by Ukrainian Armed Forces troops.
