Polish fighter jets intercept Russian reconnaissance aircraft in Baltic Sea

On Friday, March 13, a pair of Polish MiG-29 fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft in the Baltic Sea.

According to Ukrinform, the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command reported this on the social network X.

As noted, on Friday, March 13, a pair of MiG-29 fighters from the Polish Air Force “successfully intercepted, visually identified, and escorted out of the area of responsibility a Russian Federation aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea.”

“Polish fighter jets intercepted an Il-20 aircraft that was conducting its ninth reconnaissance mission in international airspace this year, without a submitted flight plan and with its transponder turned off,” the Polish command reported.

As noted, the aircraft did not violate Polish airspace, and thanks to the experience of Polish pilots, the mission was carried out “quickly, professionally, and safely.”

As reported by Ukrinform, in January, Sweden’s Quick Reaction Alert  (QRA) system intercepted Russian military aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
