A Russian drone attacked the evacuation unit White Angels in the Kupiansk district, killing two police officers.
The National Police of Ukraine stated this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"On February 20, while performing their official duties in the Kupiansk district, police officers Yulia Keleberda and Yevhen Kolhan were killed. Another officer sustained injuries," the police said in a statement.
According to the agency, special forces officers from the White Angels unit were heading out to evacuate civilians when, near the village of Serednii Burluk, their armored vehicle was struck by an enemy Lancet-type UAV.
As a result of the strike, the two officers sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Law enforcement officials said that Keleberda and Kolhan had joined the White Angels unit from the moment of its creation and had carried out numerous missions to the most dangerous settlements, saving dozens of families and evacuating children, elderly people, and persons with disabilities.
The National Police reported that Keleberda was only 23 years old and is survived by her parents.
Kolhan was 39 years old and is survived by his wife, mother, 16-year-old son, and 7-year-old daughter.
"They repeatedly risked their own lives to save others. Unfortunately, this evacuation became their last... This is an irreparable loss for the entire personnel of the National Police. The leadership and staff of the National Police express their deep and sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the fallen," the statement said.
