Ukrainian athlete Merkushyna wins gold at 2026 European biathlon championships in individual race

At the IBU Open European Championships in Sjusjøen (Norway), Ukrainian Anastasiia Merkushyna won the second event, the women's individual race.

Our athlete covered the 15-kilometer distance with clean shooting in 45 minutes and 33.9 seconds, according to Ukrinform.

The silver medal went to Italy's Samuela Comola (1 miss) +3 seconds, and the bronze to France's Voldiya Galmace-Paulin (2) +4.8.

Valeriia Dmytrenko (1) finished 19th, Nadiia Bielkina (2) 30th, and Liliia Steblyna (7) 79th.

A total of 105 biathletes competed.

On January 30, sprint races will take place: At 11:45 a.m., the men's 10 km sprint starts, and at 3:30 p.m., the women's 7.5 km sprint begins.

The pursuit races are scheduled for January 31: The men's 12.5 km pursuit at 11:45 a.m. and the women's 10 km pursuit at 2:30 p.m.

The IBU Open European Championships will conclude on February 1 with classic relays: The men's 4x7.5 km at 11:40 a.m. and the women's 4x6 km at 2:45 p.m.

We would like to add that the next start for biathletes will take place at the XXV Winter Olympic Games, which will be held from February 6 to 22 in Italy.
