Zelensky: About 4,000 buildings in Kyiv remain without heat as nearly 60% lack electricity

As of this morning, about 4,000 homes in Kyiv are still without heat, and almost 60% of the capital is without electricity.

This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Telegram following the results of an energy selector, according to Ukrinform.

"I held a special energy selector meeting. Kyiv and the surrounding region, Kharkiv and the surrounding region, Sumy, Chernihiv and the surrounding region, Dnipro and the surrounding region are the areas where the situation is currently most difficult. Repair crews and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, employees of energy companies, and utility services are working at full capacity. As of this morning, about 4,000 homes in Kyiv are still without heat, and almost 60% of the capital is without electricity. According to reports from city authorities, there are enough forces involved, but it will take time. I disagree with this assessment – additional measures and additional resources are needed," he wrote.

Zelensky reported that the Ministry of Internal Affairs had reported on the deployment and use of support and heating points, as well as on the preparation of hot meals for people.

“It is important that the work of base stations and mobile communications is supported. We spoke separately with government officials and Ukrenergo about what is needed to speed up repairs to networks and substations,” he said.

The president noted that there was a report from Zaporizhzhia on the timing and details of the involvement and preparation of additional forces to shoot down the “Shaheds.” According to him, the prime minister and the minister of defense will verify all information regarding the reservation of employees of energy companies and utilities involved in eliminating the consequences of Russian strikes and the emergency situation. Zelensky noted that a decision has already been made to reserve 100% of the personnel for such companies.

“The lack of effective response on the ground should not be attributed to a shortage of personnel — cities have the resources to recruit people for work,” he said.

The head of state added that he is expecting a separate report from government officials today on programs to support Ukrainians and businesses in the emergency situation. He stressed that steps are needed that will really help people and stabilize the situation.

“There will also be meetings and negotiations with partners who can provide additional support. The priorities for everyone are clear: missiles for air defense, equipment for the energy sector, and the fastest possible completion of all necessary work. Thank you to everyone who is helping,” he added.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Air Defense Forces destroyed 84 of the 97 drones used by the Russians to attack Ukraine since the evening of January 20.
