Russia damages Qatar Embassy building in Kyiv with strike — Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the world, and above all the US, must respond decisively to Russia's large-scale night strike on Ukraine, during which they used a medium-range ballistic missile, the Oreshnik. The Qatar Embassy building in the capital was damaged.

The President announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

Commenting on the Russian night attack, Zelensky said, “A clear reaction from the world is needed. Above all, from the United States, whose signals Russia truly pays attention to. Russia must receive signals that it is its obligation to focus on diplomacy, and must feel consequences every time it again focuses on killings and the destruction of infrastructure.”

The President emphasized that today's strike serves as a loud reminder to partners that air defense support for Ukraine remains a top priority. “Not a single day can be lost in deliveries, in production, or in agreements. Today, we will inform our partners at all levels about what has happened and what response measures we need,” Zelensky emphasized.

He reminded that the aftermath of the massive Russian shelling is currently being liquidated in Kyiv and the region. All necessary services are involved. Twenty residential buildings have been damaged alone. Recovery from the strikes is also continuing in Lviv and other areas. The President noted that as of now, four people are known to have died in the capital alone. Among them is an ambulance worker, and dozens of people have been injured. “There was also a second strike on one of the residential buildings – precisely at the moment when first responders were providing assistance after the first strike,” Zelensky stressed.

In total, according to him, there were 242 drones and ballistic missiles launched overnight, targeting energy facilities and civilian infrastructure, including 13 medium-range Oreshnik ballistic missiles and 22 cruise missiles.

“The attack took place exactly when there was a significant cold spell—aimed precisely against the normal life of ordinary people. Right now, everything possible is being done to restore heating and electricity supply for the people. Today, there will be a meeting of the Energy Staff, at which I expect reports on all the details of the restoration work – timelines, the necessary equipment, and the responsible officials,” the President emphasized.

He added that in addition to ordinary civilian infrastructure and energy facilities, a Russian drone damaged the building of the Embassy of Qatar. This country is doing so much to mediate with Russia to free prisoners of war and civilians held in Russian prisons.

As reported, last night the Air Defense Forces destroyed 226 Russian drones, eight Iskander-M / S-400 ballistic missiles, and 10 Kalibr cruise missiles.

Ukraine will initiate an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council, as well as a response within the EU, the Council of Europe, and the OSCE regarding Russia's use of a medium-range ballistic missile against the Lviv region.
