War update: 172 clashes on front line; UAF neutralizes more than 140 occupiers in Pokrovsk sector
Over the course of January 5, 172 combat engagements took place on the front line between the Defense Forces of Ukraine and Russian invaders. The Pokrovsk and Huliaipole sectors remain most active.
According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated this in a Facebook post, updating on the situation as of 22:00 on Monday, January 5.
"Since the beginning of the day, 172 combat engagements have occurred. Today the enemy carried out three missile strikes and 24 air strikes, using 10 missiles and dropping 79 glide bombs. In addition, the Russians employed 3,083 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,038 shelling attacks on the positions of our troops and populated areas," the statement said.
In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, the enemy conducted two air strikes, dropped seven glide bombs, and carried out 63 shelling attacks, including two using multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, Ukrainian troops stopped four enemy attacks in the areas of Vovchansk, Prylipka, and toward Kutkivka.
In the Kupiansk sector, since the beginning of the day the enemy attempted to advance toward Kurylivka and Kupiansk twice, but was repelled.
In the Lyman sector, over the day Russian invaders attacked Ukrainian positions nine times near Nadiia, Zarichne, and in the directions of the settlements of Drobysheve, Stavky, and Lyman.
In the Sloviansk sector, the Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks near Zakitne.
In the Kramatorsk sector, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Kostiantynivka sector, Russians attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 20 times. The occupiers concentrated their main offensive efforts in the areas of the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Stepanivka, Ivanopillia, Kostiantynivka, Berestok, and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk sector, occupying units attempted 38 times to break through Ukraine's defenses in the areas of the settlements of Chervonyi Lyman, Sukhetske, Zatyshok, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Dachne, Filiia, and toward the settlements of Hryshyne and Ivanivka. In some locations, fighting is still ongoing.
Today in this sector, Ukrainian warriors neutralized 142 occupiers, including 98 killed. They also destroyed 31 unmanned aerial vehicles, three motorcycles, two satellite communication terminals, six units of automotive equipment and two units of special equipment, one UAV control point, and three personnel shelters. In addition, Ukrainian forces struck two infantry fighting vehicles, one artillery system, one multiple launch rocket system, three units of automotive equipment and two units of special equipment, and 12 personnel shelters.
In the Oleksandrivka sector, the enemy attacked 14 times in the areas of the settlements of Vyshneve, Zlahoda, Sichneve, Oleksandrohrad, Sosnivka, and toward Ivanivka. One engagement is still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole sector, the Defense Forces repelled and stopped 34 Russian attacks in the areas of Uspenivka, Solodke, Huliaipole, and toward Dobropillia, Varvarivka, Zelene, and Pryluky. Seven more combat engagements are ongoing. The enemy carried out air strikes on the settlements of Zaliznychne, Rizdvianivka, Ternuvate, and Vozdvyzhivka.
The Defense Forces repelled two enemy attempts to advance in the Orikhiv sector in the area of Plavni and toward Prymorske. Tavriiske came under an air strike.
In the Prydniprovske sector, the enemy made two unsuccessful attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders.
In other sectors, the situation did not undergo significant changes, the General Staff added.
As Ukrinform reported, the total combat losses of Russian troops from February 24, 2022 to January 5, 2026 in the war against Ukraine amount to approximately 1,212,520 personnel.
