Polish volunteer wounded on front line in Ukraine dies in hospital
Polish volunteer Kacper "Frenchman" Bass has died in a hospital in Poland from wounds he sustained in late December on the front line in Ukraine.
Onet stated this in an article, according to Ukrinform.
The 28-year-old volunteer suffered severe injuries while at a position in the Kharkiv region. The circumstances of the incident are currently unknown, as another serviceman who was with him at the position was also seriously wounded and remains in a coma.
Bass, who had severe burns, was transported to a hospital in Poland, where he died on December 31.
The outlet notes that Kacper Bass had fought on Ukraine's side against Russia for more than three years. In 2022, he received the Order "For Courage", and in 2023, the Medal "For Bravery". He served on all the most difficult sections of the front.
Bass received the call sign "Frenchman" because he had served in the French Foreign Legion.
It is currently unknown whether he had close relatives in Poland.
As Ukrinform reported, in May 2025 a 45-year-old volunteer from Poland, journalist Krzysztof Gorzelak, was killed in the war against the Russian aggressor.
On January 30, 2025, Kyiv held a farewell ceremony for 19-year-old volunteer from Poland Filip Antosiak, who was killed near Pokrovsk in Donetsk region.
