Russian forces strike Pivdennyi Port in Odesa region

In the morning of December 20, Russian forces struck infrastructure at the Pivdennyi Port in Ukraine’s Odesa region, with hits recorded on storage tanks.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported on Telegram by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development.

“Overnight, the enemy carried out a ballistic strike on a port in Odesa. As of now, the death toll has unfortunately risen to eight, with around 30 people injured. The shelling has not stopped. After 8:00, another attack on Pivdennyi Port was recorded – there were hits on storage tanks. Medical, rescue, and pyrotechnic services are working at the sites, and all necessary emergency crews have been deployed,” the statement said.

According to Kuleba, port workers continue their operations, ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of maritime logistics.

Efforts are ongoing in the region to deal with the aftermath of the massive attacks and to maintain logistics following the strike on a bridge in the area of Maiaky.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the humanitarian situation in the region remains stable. Residents of Odesa region retain transport connections and access to all essential goods and services. Passage for emergency services, food cargo, postal carriers, and other urgent shipments is ensured. Ukrposhta continues to deliver parcels, pensions, and social benefits on time.

At present, alternative transport routes are in operation, allowing both border logistics and connectivity between the region and other parts of Ukraine to be maintained. All border crossing points are functioning, and no significant traffic queues have been recorded.

Representatives of the government and local authorities have communicated with industry stakeholders and the business community, who expressed readiness to support all government initiatives aimed at addressing the situation in the region.

According to the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, more than 37,000 consumers in the city of Odesa and Odesa district remain without electricity. At the same time, residents of the region are supplied with heat and water.

Following the shelling, the city of Mykolaiv is also without power, and emergency crews are working to restore electricity.

As reported earlier, in the evening of December 19, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on a port infrastructure facility. Eight people were killed and 27 injured.
