Defense Forces strike Astrakhan gas processing plant in Russia – General Staff
During the night of December 15, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Astrakhan gas processing plant in the Russian Federation.
According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.
"To reduce the enemy's capacity to produce explosives, during the night of December 15 the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully struck a strategic enemy facility – the Astrakhan gas processing plant," the statement reads.
The General Staff noted that the Astrakhan GPP is one of the key enterprises in Russia's oil and gas industry. The plant produces up to 3.5 million tonnes of sulfur annually, which is used to manufacture explosives for Russia's military-industrial complex.
Explosions were recorded at the facility, and a large fire broke out.
The extent of the damage is being clarified.
"The Defense Forces will continue to take measures to undermine the offensive potential of the Russian invaders and to force the Russian Federation to cease armed aggression against Ukraine," the General Staff emphasized.
As Ukrinform reported, Russia has reported drone attacks on Moscow and at least eight other regions, and in Belgorod, authorities reported a hit on a thermal power plant.
