In November 2025, in the area of the village of Hnativka in the Pokrovsk district, Russians shot a Ukrainian defender who had been captured and was unable to resist.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office on its Telegram channel.
Russian invaders captured a Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier during an assault on positions near the village of Hnativka. One of the invaders tied his hands, while another struck him several times on the head with the butt of an assault rifle. When the unarmed defender stopped responding, they shot him.
The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasizes that the deliberate killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and a serious international crime.
Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched in criminal proceedings into the commission of a war crime that resulted in the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
An urgent investigation is underway to determine all the circumstances of the incident and identify the specific individuals responsible for the crime.
