The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to make progress on the northern and southern flanks of Bakhmut, Donetsk region.

Colonel Mykola Urshalovych, deputy director of the planning department of the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine, stated this at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"In the Bakhmut direction (last week - ed.), the National Guard soldiers continued to conduct aerial and radio-electronic reconnaissance to identify areas where the enemy's manpower and equipment are concentrated, its radar stations and means of radio-electronic warfare, firepower in order to support units of the Defense Forces, which continue to develop success on the northern and southern flanks of Bakhmut," Urshalovych said.

According to him, in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson sectors last week, the enemy, while holding the defense, continued chaotic shelling of Ukrainian positions using all types of available weapons, including aircraft. Urshalovych assured that, despite powerful attacks by Russian forces, the National Guard did not allow them to capture the territory.

According to him, last week the main efforts of the National Guard units, in cooperation with other components of the security and defense sector, were focused on defensive actions within the Slobozhanshchyna, Donetsk, and Tavria operational areas, as well as on conducting stabilization actions within the Volyn, Polissia and Sivershchyna areas, Bessarabia and Pivdennyi Buh operational areas.

He stated that the National Guard soldiers focused mostly on continuing the tasks of anti-aircraft defense of dangerous areas along the Black Sea coast in the South Buh operational area, participating in ground defense in the South-Western operational area, etc.

According to Urshalovych, during the week, the National Guard units in heavy battles in different sectors of the front inflicted numerous losses on the invaders, depriving the Russian army of its offensive potential.

At the same time, National Guard soldiers continue to carry out certain operational and combat tasks as part of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As reported, on May 24, the National Guard said that the situation in the Luhansk direction over the past week was the most difficult in the Serebriansk forestry area and Bilohorivka.
