UK ambassador reacts to Russia's nighttime missile attack on Kyiv

British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons has said after another night of a Russian missile attack on Kyiv that she is happy about the new day and that British diplomats remain in the Ukrainian capital.

Simmons shared her impressions on Twitter, according to Ukrinform.

"Another night of Russia's attack on Ukraine. Slept on the floor of the windowless hallway tonight so no need to move anywhere when woken up by noise of nearby explosions," she said.

Simmons added that she "popped out after the all clear to get a look at the sky" and published a photo with a view of Kyiv.

"I guess one advantage of an early morning air raid is the chance to see this. Clouds parting. New day. We are still here," the ambassador said.

Late on May 8 and early on May 9, Russian troops fired 25 Kalibr and Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles at Ukraine. Ukrainian defenses intercepted 23 of them.

During today's missile attack on Kyiv, the fifth one since the beginning of May, about 15 aerial targets were detected and destroyed in the airspace around Kyiv.
