Every Ukrainian community should have partnership in democratic countries - Sadovyi

Each, even the smallest, Ukrainian community should build cooperation and have ties with partner communities in all democratic countries of Europe and the world.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, chairman of the Chamber of Local Authorities of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine, said that during a briefing held as part of the International Summit of Cities and Regions, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I am generally convinced that every Ukrainian community, even the smallest one, should have partner communities in all democratic countries of Europe and the world. This is how I see the task facing Congress because partnerships need to be built, these bridges of cooperation. Of course, we also need to work hard on legislative changes if we want to be members of the European Union," Sadovyi said.

He noted that it is important that we have support and understanding in this matter. The head of the House of Local Authorities of the Congress also said that today, right during the forum, a separate agreement was signed between the French city of Coulaines and the Vakulove community, which was not planned.

When asked why communities in foreign cities need such cooperation, Sadovyi noted that there is a demand for it in the society of those cities and countries to better understand Ukrainians and the Ukrainian spirit, and the authorities are very sensitive to such requests.

"Today, our colleagues from around the world read about chivalry, support, and courage in books. And Ukrainians demonstrate this every day. No one can understand how we were supposed to lose, but we are winning. How can we measure the Ukrainian spirit? It is a great power and God's favor, and people want to touch it. And this makes a lot of sense, we need to use this moment to build bridges between our communities. The interest in Ukraine will not last forever, there are various difficult moments in the world, and today is the time for Ukraine to win and be a legislator," said the mayor of Lviv.

As reported earlier, Kyiv is hosting the International Summit of Cities and Regions. About 100 representatives of foreign countries from all over the world, heads of associations of cities and regions, representatives of the Congress of the Council of Europe, and heads of Ukrainian communities and regions are taking part in the event.
