Bulgaria closes ports to all Russian ships

Bulgaria has decided to close ports to all ships that have a certificate from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

This is reported by Ukrinform, referring to PortSEurope.

"From April 8, 2023, access to Bulgarian sea and river ports is prohibited for all vessels, regardless of the flag under which they sail, which are certified by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping," the statement said.

The decision was made according to the EU directive of sanctions implementation.

The Bulgarian government bans to enter Russian-flagged vessels into the country's ports on April 17 last year. The measure was envisaged by the fifth package of European sanctions. Now the ban is extended to Russian vessels flying the flags of other countries.
