Ukraine to receive about 80 Leopard 1 tanks in 2023 - Reznikov

Ukraine will receive about 80 Leopard 1 tanks by the end of the year.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said this in a post on his Facebook page following a meeting with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius, Ukrinform reports.

"The German government has already decided to supply Ukraine with Leopard 1 tanks. There will be 20-25 of these tanks by this summer, about 80 by the end of the year, and more than 100 Leopard 1 tanks in 2024. These are at least three battalions, including materials that will need to be purchased, spare parts, ammunition and training," he wrote.

He recalled that Ukraine would receive 14 Leopard 2 A6 battle tanks from Germany.

"Germany is with us. The support is tremendous. It will only get better," Reznikov added.

He said that options for speeding up the production of ammunition for Ukraine, including air defense systems, had been discussed at the meeting.

Both ministers also discussed future bilateral cooperation, after Ukraine's victory.

Pistorius is visiting Ukraine on Tuesday, February 7.
