Lubinets: Russia committing entire spectrum of genocide against Ukrainian children

During a meeting in Strasbourg with PACE Chairman Tiny Kox, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights emphasized the protection of the rights of Ukrainian children against whom Russia is committing genocide.

The official reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"He emphasized the protection of the rights of Ukrainian children, in relation to whom Russia is committing the entire spectrum of genocide: from deportation to the setup of children's torture camps in the temporarily occupied territories. In order to protect our future generation, it is necessary to adopt the relevant PACE resolutions," the ombudsman said.

He stated that Russia keeps violating the fundamental rights of Ukrainians – those to life and safety, which must not go unpunished. In this regard, Lubinets thanked Kox for the unanimous support of the PACE Resolution on the establishment of a special international criminal tribunal to prosecute the highest political and military leadership of Russia and Belarus for committing the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

"It is important that the immunities of the officials do not and will not be applied in this tribunal. Therefore, no one will be able to avoid accountability," said the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada.

In addition, he pointed out, the social and economic rights of Ukrainians are being violated, so the call of PACE to all the states of the Council of Europe to create, in cooperation with the Ukrainian authorities, an international compensation mechanism, including a register of damages, is no less relevant.

"I hope that Ukraine will continue to be a priority on the agenda of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe," Lubinets emphasized.

As reported, on January 30, the Ombudsman discussed the issue of the deportation of Ukrainian children by Russia with the chief of the Council of Europe's Department for Combating Discrimination of the Directorate General of Democracy and Human Dignity.
