Russians shell Zaporizhzhia region’s Huliaipole with incendiary munitions

Russian troops have shelled the Zaporizhzhia region’s Huliaipole community with incendiary munitions, an Ukrinform correspondent reports from the scene.

“We are holding in our hands incendiary munitions fired by the occupiers at civilians, namely such settlements as Zaliznychne, Huliaipole and others. Such munitions are prohibited to be used. They cannot be extinguished with water. As soon as they hit the ground, everything catches fire,” the Ukrainian serviceman, using the call sign ‘Ariets’, told.

According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, last night Russian troops struck a peaceful Ukrainian village with incendiary munitions.

“Not a single Ukrainian military facility in sight. This is a violation of Protocol III of the CCW Convention and a pathetic attempt at revenge by the losers,” the ministry wrote.

In the village of Zaliznychne, local residents say that the enemy opens fire every day.

“Most often, they use the Grad systems, sometimes mortar shells. On December 31, 2022, a powerful attack came,” Oleh Yakovlevych, 73, noted.

Together with him and his wife, there are 35 more people remaining in the village. Prior to the war, more than 1,200 residents lived there. Not a single house has remained intact in this settlement.

Despite the challenging security situation, about 2,300 civilians are remaining within the Huliaipole community.

According to Head of Huliaipole Police Department Oleksandr Hordienko, Russian troops open fire on the city of Huliaipole and the Huliaipole district on a daily basis. The enemy uses all the available means, such as the Grad and Uragan multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), self-propelled artillery systems, helicopters and tanks. On the night of January 7, 2023, when Russia declared the so-called ‘Christmas truce’, about 230 projectiles hit Huliaipole.
