Pentagon announces additional $400M in security assistance to Ukraine

The United States Department of Defense has announced approximately $400 million in additional security assistance for Ukraine under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

The relevant statement was made by Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The USAI package underscores the continued U.S. commitment to supporting Ukraine by meeting the most urgent requirements, while also building the capacity of Ukraine’s Armed Forces to defend its sovereignty over the long term,” Singh said.

This announcement represents the beginning of a contracting process to provide additional priority capabilities to Ukraine, including funding to refurbish HAWK air defense missiles, 45 refurbished T-72 tanks with advanced optics, communications and armor packages, 1,100 Phoenix Ghost tactical unmanned aerial systems, 40 armored riverine boats, as well as funding to refurbish 250 M1117 armored security vehicles.

Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak expressed gratitude to the United States for the new military aid package.

“We thank the American allies for another military aid package for Ukraine, totaling $400 million. It includes, in particular, T-72 tanks, M1117 armored security vehicles, armored boats, Phoenix Ghost drones. Together we will defeat Russian evil,” Yermak wrote on Telegram.

A reminder that a new military aid package for Ukraine from the United States was also announced by Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov earlier today.
