Invaders could be plotting violent provocation in Melitopol’s main square - mayor

In the temporarily captured Melitopol on Sunday, the Russian invaders may try to stage a false flag attack to accuse the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov broke the news on the air of the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.

"Today, October 23, Melitopol celebrates the day of its liberation from fascist invaders. Every year on this date, we would honor our veterans, but today the occupiers are trying to stage a provocation in the city," Fedorov said.

According to the mayor’s information, for 16:00 local time, the invaders have scheduled an event in the central square, where they intend to bus in a crowd of extras before committing a violent false flag attack in order to later blame the Resistance Forces and Ukraine’s Army.

"The civilian population is always a priority for us, and certainly no one is going to put civilians in danger," the mayor added.

He called on the citizens to remain vigilant, to avoid crowded venues, not to approach the Russian troops and equipment, and not to participate in the dubious events set up by the occupiers.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Ukrainian patriots in the Melitopol district of Zaporizhzhia region, temporarily captured by Russian troops, offer the invaders money for turning in their military equipment: from $5,000 for an armored combat vehicle to $50,000 for a main battle tank.
