Latvia registers more than 36,000 refugees from Ukraine

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression, Latvia has registered 37,332 refugees from Ukraine, of whom 32,097 have been granted a residence permit with the right to employment.

According to Ukrinform, Delfi reported this with reference to the latest statistics provided by Latvia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Accommodation through local civil defense committees for civil defense was provided to 12,474 Ukrainians. This means that the rest of the refugees found housing on their own or stay with friends and relatives.

46% of the total number of Ukrainian refugees in Latvia are women, 22% are men, 32% are children, mostly between the ages of 2 and 17.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science, on September 1, 3,339 Ukrainian children will start the new school year in kindergartens and schools in Latvia.
