Zelensky ready for compromises, not betrayal of Ukraine

Ukraine is ready to make reasonable concessions to end the war, but the other side must be ready to compromise as well.

"In any negotiations, my goal is to end the war with Russia. And I am ready for certain steps," Zelensky told the Bild German newspaper when asked what concessions he is ready to make.

According to the President, compromises can be made but they must not be a betrayal of the country. At the same time, the other side must also be ready to compromise because this is the only way to get out of this situation, the Head of State stressed.

He noted that he couldn't talk about the details yet.

At the same time, Zelensky believes that it will be possible to end this war only after direct talks between the two presidents.

The president said what was happening now was "real terror."

"But we believe in the future. We will not give up, we will not sell our land," the Ukrainian leader stressed.

Asked to comment on the position of the German Chancellor, who still opposes the embargo on oil and gas imports from Russia, Zelensky said he did not want to judge Olaf Scholz and his government now but "will do so later" when the number of victims will be clear. "What is happening to us now can happen to you… We are dying for you as well," said the President of Ukraine.

The Head of State also said that he was not afraid for himself but he was worried about the fate of the country, the fate of such cities as Mariupol, Donetsk, Melitopol, Volnovakha, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia region where the situation is terrible.

On February 24, president Putin announced the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are shelling and destroying key infrastructure, massively hitting residential areas of Ukrainian towns and villages using artillery, multiple-launch rocket system, and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
