Ukraine's representative in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group for Donbas Iryna Gerashchenko stated this during a press conference held at Ukrinform.
"We are in constant contact with his family, and we are working hard to free Roman and other political prisoners held in Russian prisons. His lawyer and consuls constantly visit him, and they say that Roman feels well. But we have not received any signals from the Russian side regarding its readiness to release him," she noted.
As reported, Ukrinform correspondent in France Roman Sushchenko was illegally detained on September 30, 2016 in Moscow, where he arrived on a private trip.
On October 7, 2016, he was charged with "espionage." Russia's FSB claimed that Sushchenko is a member of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry. The latter denied this allegation.
On June 4, 2018, the Moscow City Court sentenced Sushchenko to 12 years in a high-security penal colony. The appeal against the sentence was filed on June 5. The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation will consider the appeal on September 12.
