We must use every opportunity to release Sushchenko – Information policy minister

The Information Policy Ministry is conducting a dialogue with the Justice Ministry to use all the opportunities for diplomatic influence on situation regarding illegal detention of Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko in Russia.

Information Policy Minister Yuriy Stets said this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We are conducting a dialogue with the Justice Ministry so that, as part of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, to provide legal assistance and to use all the opportunities of Ukraine for diplomatic influence on situation regarding illegal detention of Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko in Russia," he said.

As reported, Roman Sushchenko was detained on Friday, September 30, in Moscow following Russian media reports accusing him of 'espionage'. Roman at the time of arrest was on vacation and arrived in Moscow for private purposes. Ukrinform and Sushchenko's wife concluded an agreement with lawyer Mark Feygin who will defend Roman Sushchenko. Roman Suchshenko is being kept in Moscow's Lefortovo prison.
