Zelensky awards Heraskevych Order of Freedom

The corresponding presidential decree No. 119/2026 was published on the official website of the President of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

"For selfless service to the Ukrainian people, civic courage and patriotism in upholding the ideals of freedom and democratic values, I hereby decree: to award the Order of Freedom to Vladyslav Mykhailovych Heraskevych – member of the national Olympic team of Ukraine, skeleton athlete," the document states.

As previously reported, earlier today Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych was disqualified before his first run at the 2026 Olympic Games. Heraskevych had planned to start his first run wearing a "helmet of remembrance," but the event took place without his participation. The day before, the IOC had prohibited him from competing in the "helmet of remembrance" at the Olympic Games. Violating the ban could have led to his disqualification.
