Tsurenko moves into Brisbane semifinals

Ukraine's second-seeded tennis player and world No. 27 Lesia Tsurenko has won through to the semifinals of the Brisbane International, a prestigious WTA Premier tournament with $1 million in prize money.

Tsurenko, from Kyiv, defeated Estonian Anett Kontaveit (world No. 20) in two sets - 7-5, 6-3, Ukrinform reported.

The game lasted one hour and 32 minutes.

In a semifinal on January 5, Tsurenko will face Naomi Osaka from Japan, who ranks fifth in world tennis rankings.

Tsurenko had already played in the semifinals of the Brisbane tournament in 2013.
