Ukraine wins two gold medals at Invictus Games

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has congratulated Oleksandr Belobokov and Serhiy Ilchytsky on winning the first gold medals for the Ukrainian team at the Invictus Games in Sydney.

The head of state posted the greetings on his Facebook page.

"The first gold medals for the Ukrainian team at Invictus Games Sydney 2018. Congratulations to Oleksandr Belobokov and Serhiy Ilchytsky who earned these amazing wins on rowing simulators. Keep it up!" Poroshenko wrote.

On the first day of the competition, Ukrainian Denys Fishchuk won a bronze medal in cycling. This was the first medal for Ukraine at this year's competition.

The Invictus Games is an international sporting event for servicemen and veterans with disabilities acquired during the performance of official duties. Representatives of NATO member states, as well as strategic partners of the alliance, take part in the competitions.
