President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says he will attend the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in Toronto after he takes part in sessions of the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council in New York.

The President said this in Kyiv during a training session of the national team to represent Ukraine at the Invictus Games, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We leave for Toronto immediately after New York. I think that I will attend the opening [of the Invictus Games] on [September] 22th," the Head of State said.

At the same time, he noted that representatives of the Presidential Administration and the Government would stay with the Ukrainian team until the end of the competition.

The President also stressed that the entire Ukraine would root for the Ukrainian team and expressed the hope that participants in the Invictus Games would become as popular as Klitschko brothers or Oleksandr Usyk.

"You give an example, give hope, inspire for further successes," Poroshenko emphasized, addressing representatives of the Ukrainian team.

As reported, the President of Ukraine will make a visit to the United States of America on September 18-21.

The Invictus Games is the only international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women, created by Britain's Prince Harry, in which former armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and indoor rowing. The Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, injured and sick servicepersons.

The inaugural Invictus Games was held in London from 10-14 September 2014 and was attended by over 400 competitors from 13 nations. The Invictus Games 2017 will be held in Toronto on September 23-30.
