Ukrainian Parliament passes law on inclusive education

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed the law on amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Education" regarding the peculiarities of access of persons with special educational needs to educational services.

As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, 297 lawmakers voted for the adoption of the relevant bill.

The law regulates the access of persons with special educational needs to educational services in the educational institutions. In particular, the right of persons with special educational needs to education is enshrined and they are given the opportunity to get education in all the educational establishments, including free of charge in state and municipal educational institutions.

The corresponding bill was submitted to the Parliament by the President of Ukraine and defined as urgent. The document was drafted in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Presenting the bill, MP Iryna Lutsenko, the representative of the President in the Verkhovna Rada, stressed that about 10% of children were in need to enforce such rights now in Ukraine.
