Ukrainians call anti-terrorist operation (ATO) the main political event of the year 2016.

This is evidenced by the results of a poll conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Fund named after Ilya Kucheriv jointly with Razumkov Centre Sociological Service, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Thus, ATO was named the main event by 14% of the polled Ukrainians, while 8.2% of the respondents believe it was as a rise in utility tariffs and 8% said it was the introduction of electronic declarations. At the same time, almost one third of those polled failed to name any event.

The presidential elections in the United States was called the main world political event by 37%, as well as the Russian military intervention in Syria (11.5%) and wars in the world (10.8%).

The survey was conducted from December 16 until December 20, 2016 in all regions of Ukraine, except Crimea and the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. A total of 2,018 respondents, aged over 18 years, were polled. The margin of error does not exceed 2.3%. The survey was financed under the MARTA Programme of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
